These days, the first PhD in Social Complexity Sciences, Cristian Candia-Castro, has been quite busy. This week, the CICS researcher presented his work The Higher Education Space, Connecting Degree Programs from Applicants’ Choices at the Web Conference 2019 in San Francisco, United States, whose success was such that a LinkedIn company team – from the Economic Graph Analytics department – contacted Candia after the presentation, for possible collaboration and inquired into how to map the labor market in a similar way and understand the gap between higher education and the labor market.
Likewise, the road map includes work with Javier Pulgar, a Doctorate in Education student at the University of California Santa Barbara, whom he works with on how to strengthen cooperation in classrooms and to study the way different patterns of interaction impact the academic success. In the same way, both develop a chapter for a social network analysis book in Latin America, whose date of publication is contemplated by the end of 2020.
The tour continues the week after with a trip to Boston, to work with César Hidalgo at MIT; they will be joined by the Director of the Research Center in Social Complexity, Carlos Rodríguez-Sickert, for the development of an article related to cooperation and reciprocity in primary schools.
The journey concludes in Burlington, New Jersey, where Candia is the organizer of the satellite conference called Network Science for Social Good in conjunction with Unicef (May 27-31). On the occasion, he will present the work The Higher Education Space, connecting Degree Programs from Applicants’ Choices.
